The Society of American Indian Government Employees will hold their 5th Annual Training Conference June 2-6, 2008 near Traverse City, MI. The training program is targeted towards Federal employees. The title for this year is "Blessed by Tradition: Honoring Our Ancestors Through Government Service." This conference provides three days of training qualified in compliance with 5 U.S.C. Chapter 41. The training is open to all employees and will provide training and workshops over a wide range of topics ranging from career planning to project management and leadership skills.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is required as part of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (Section 8402) to send a detailed listing of Presidentially-appointed positions to the Republican and Democrat candidates for President. This new law requires that the information be provided not later than 15 days after the date on which a major party nominates a candidate for President.

In 2008, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will again administer the Federal Human Capital Survey (FHCS). This is the fourth time OPM will conduct the survey, which was first conducted in 2002, and then again in 2004 and 2006. For the 2006 administration, more than 220,000 full-time Government employees responded providing crucial feedback to guide human capital management strategies and provide human capital metrics within the Human Capital Assessment and Accountability Framework.

One area in which applicants express frustration, is having to complete numerous versions of applications due to differing vacancy announcements for identical positions. With this in mind, I directed my staff to develop standardized vacancy announcements for various entry level positions.
