I am pleased to share the results of our latest look at career transition assistance programs. These programs continue to aid Federal employees separated from their positions by downsizing.
As you will see in the attached report, in the last 5 years over 30,000 surplus and displaced employees have successfully moved to other Federal jobs through career transition assistance and priority selection programs. While overall Federal downsizing has decreased significantly, restructuring efforts continue in some agencies. These placement programs help the Government retain its investment in experienced, knowledgeable Federal employees. With these career transition initiatives, we can also lessen the burden and the frustration of well-qualified employees as they use their initiative to find other Federal jobs or careers.
