Tuesday, July 18, 2000
MEMORANDUM FOR:
Heads Of Executive Departments And Agencies
From:
CAROL J. OKIN (…signed July 18, 2000) ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR EMPLOYMENT
Subject:
Spirit of ADA Torch Relay

The culmination of the Spirit of ADA Torch Relay will take place in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, July 25. This Relay marks the tenth anniversary of the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the passage of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The primary objective of the Relay, sponsored by the American Association of People with Disabilities, is to connect, inform, educate, and involve people across the United States in celebrating the contributions of the millions of adults and children with disabilities.

Recognizing that the Federal Government is a model employer with regard to hiring and advancement of people with disabilities, the organizers of the Relay would like fifty Federal employees with disabilities to participate in the Relay next Tuesday. We support this worthy event and encourage you to let employees with disabilities within your agency participate in this historic event.

All employees interested in participating should contact Layo Oyewole, with the Independence Center of Northern Virginia, at (703) 525-3268, no later than Thursday, July 20. Ms. Oyewole can provide additional details about the Relay.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
