National Career Services Conference

As we discussed at our most recent HRMC Meeting, OPM, on behalf of Federal agencies, is sponsoring a National Career Services Conference September 24 and 25 at the University of Maryland University Center in College Park, Maryland. This is the same site where Solutions Conferences have been held. This conference will be a significant step in reestablishing relationships between Federal agencies and the college and university career service staffs who play a vital role in our recruiting efforts.

We invite your agency to join the IRS, Agriculture, the EPA, Labor, Commerce and Navy, as well as the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration, to help us develop a conference program that will provide:

  1. an overview of the federal hiring process
  2. information to help career services professionals better match the skills of their students with Federal occupations
  3. agency "branding" information through individual agency presentations and booths and
  4. networking opportunities with college and university attendees

We estimate that approximately 500 people (200 from agencies and 300 from colleges and universities) will attend this conference. In addition to planning the program, our interagency planning group will develop a strategy for defraying the conference costs.

I urge you to be an active partner in this effort to reconnect us with the nation's colleges and universities. We will hold a conference planning meeting on Wednesday, April 11 here at OPM in our 6th floor PCR Conference Room (Room 6H10). Dave Herman of my staff is coordinating this conference. Please let Dave know who will be attending from your agency at 202-606-3736 or and contact him if you have questions.
