MEMORANDUM FOR:
Human Resources Directors
From:
Richard A. Whitford, Acting Associate Director for Employment
Subject:
National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration Annual Conference

The National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) will be holding its Annual Conference from October 25-27 in Washington, DC. This Conference brings together the deans, directors, career counselors, and faculty of 250 graduate schools to discuss education for government careers. Panels and workshops will address issues such as federal recruitment and hiring trends, IT training, diversity, tribal administration and other issues. There will be a separate pre-conference meeting with career counselors.

NASPAA is an organization of graduate schools of public administration and public policy that collectively graduate about 10,000 masters students each year. It actively supports the Presidential Management Intern program that encourages students to begin public service careers within the federal government. The schools are eager to hear from public sector employers about the competencies and skills that future graduates will need.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management supports NASPAA's efforts and considers this conference to be a valuable resource for managers, human resource personnel and equal opportunity directors. It will be particularly important for those of you seeking to recruit management talent and to understand the skills and competencies these graduates will bring to the Federal workforce. We encourage your attendance at this Conference and I know NASPAA would also welcome your long-term involvement with them as an Associate Member.
