As you know, in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, OPM issued special hiring authorities and provided other vital information to the Federal human resource community. Additionally, OPM, like your own agency, has been receiving inquiries from Federal retirees who want to serve our country again.
We have established a toll free number that is available to former Federal employees, 888-353-9447, to centralize the inquiries received at OPM. We are also ready and receiving e-mail inquiries at Patriot@opm.gov.
We are using the attached "Federal Re-Employment Readiness Sheet" to collect information from the retired Federal employees. Once the information is collected from an individual, we will forward it to the appropriate member of the Human Resources Management Council where we believe the skills of the individual may meet an identified need of an agency (e.g., former FBI agents to U.S. Department of Justice).
I am asking for your assistance in ensuring that these retired Federal employees receive a call back from the Department/agency. These citizens have embraced a deeply held sense of duty to the American public and deserve our courtesy and respect for volunteering to once again serve their country after the horrendous events of September 11th.
Thank you for your assistance in connecting these courageous citizens with jobs.
