MEMORANDUM FOR:
Human Resources Directors
From:
Doris Hausser, Assistant Director for Performance and Compensation Systems Design
Subject:
Final Review of the GS-1500 Job Family Classification Standard for Professional Work in the Mathematical Sciences Group

As you know, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has been working closely with you and the mathematics and statistics community to develop and provide improved occupational and job grading criteria for this work. We are nearing completion of the job family standard and are circulating it for a final "quick review," just as we shared the GS‑0200 and GS-2200 (IT) job family standards with you before their final issuance. We are not sharing this edition for you to make any further test application. Our intent is to give you an opportunity to see how we accommodated concerns you raised in your consolidated comments on the draft standard and to see its coverage and exclusions.

To expedite review, we are placing a copy of the final draft on the OPM FTP server in the Word 2002 format. The URL for the OPM FTP server is ftp://ftp.opm.gov. The USERID is "pubclass," and the password is "classify."

We intend to proceed with the final issuance as expeditiously as possible to give you up-to-date classification standards to use. Consequently, we ask that you submit any comments you may wish to make by COB, Friday, September 20, 2002. If you have no further comments, you do not need to contact us.

If you have questions about this final review, please contact Judy Davis, Classification Programs Division Chief, at 606-2950 or jadavis@opm.gov. As always, we appreciate your help in developing and issuing this important job family standard.
