The response to our two offerings of a workshop on the five Government-wide initiatives in the President's Management Agenda has been extraordinary. Both sessions in February are full, and we have worked with OMB, our partner on these sessions, to schedule two more: on March 8 and March 19, 2002. As part of OPM's leadership responsibility to train and educate Federal managers, I am committed to supporting the Administration by meeting the demand for assistance that has been generated by this ambitious agenda.
The quick response to these offerings demonstrates that the President has effectively communicated the importance of these initiatives and that our executives are serious about implementation. As in the February sessions, we are offering a practical, nuts-and-bolts workshop on the five Government-wide initiatives to career senior executives. The sessions in this workshop will be organized by the "owners" of the initiatives who will share best practices and useful tools that will help your agency get the "green" light on all five initiatives.
The workshop will be held at the Academy for Educational Development at 1825 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. Enclosed is a registration form that will also be distributed to your Human Resource Director. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In introducing his management agenda, President Bush said, "...good beginnings are not the measure of success. What matters in the end is completion. Performance. Results." The five Government-wide initiatives in particular call for us to reform our operations as they require Government to "rethink its purpose - how it defines what business is and what services it should provide" (the President's Management Agenda). This workshop, and other offerings to follow, is designed to provide practical tools and help create the mindset that supports reform.
I look forward to seeing your key executives at these sessions. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Harvey, the Acting Director of OPM's Senior Executive Service (SES) Learning Center at 202-606-1775 or caharvey@opm.gov.
